Design Process
1. Discovery Phase: Identifying Problems Through Research
When analyzing the existing alerts interface, I observed several limitations that hindered the user experience:
Alerts were displayed in a basic, text-heavy format, making it difficult to prioritize and act on important notifications.
Users expressed confusion about how to address critical alerts or navigate to associated actions.
The interface lacked a cohesive design, creating a fragmented experience across dashboard and account details.
These findings highlighted the need for a unified alerts system that not only improved visual organization but also facilitated actionable insights for users.
2. Define Phase: Brainstorming Solutions
To address the identified challenges, I collaborated with the digital team to explore potential enhancements. Key solutions proposed included:
Introducing categorical grouping for alerts (e.g., urgent actions, general updates) to help users prioritize tasks.
Adding clear call-to-action buttons for resolving issues directly from the alerts interface.
Enhancing the visual hierarchy with distinct icons, color coding, and simplified text to improve readability and usability.
Wireframes reflecting these changes were shared with internal stakeholders and focus groups, whose feedback emphasized the importance of quick and easy resolution paths.
3. Design Phase: Prototyping the Improved Design
Using insights from brainstorming and feedback sessions, I developed high-fidelity prototypes with the following enhancements:
Urgent Action Items Section: High-priority alerts are now grouped at the top with bold visuals and clear resolution buttons.
Improved Visual Hierarchy: Icons and color-coded sections make it easier to scan and understand the importance of each alert.
Integrated Quick Links: Actionable links within alerts lead users directly to the relevant sections for immediate resolution.
The result was a visually engaging and action-oriented alerts interface that aligns with the overall dashboard design.
4. Testing Phase: Usability Testing and Iteration
To validate the redesign, usability tests were conducted with both internal team members and actual users. Key feedback included:
"The urgent items stand out immediately—I know exactly what to do!"
"It's so helpful to resolve actions directly from the alert without searching for options."
Based on this feedback, minor adjustments were made, such as refining the wording on action buttons and further optimizing icon clarity.
5. Implementation Phase: Finalizing the Design
After incorporating user feedback, the final design successfully addressed the identified challenges:
Unified User Experience: Alerts are now seamlessly integrated across the member dashboard, account details, and the new Actions & Alerts page.
Enhanced Usability: Improved layout and actionable elements reduce user effort in managing alerts.
Prioritization Made Simple: Urgent items are highlighted effectively, ensuring users can focus on what matters most.
With this redesign, users can interact with alerts more intuitively and efficiently, improving their overall experience across the platform.
